Jesus on the Old Testament Matt. 5:17-20

Call to Worship

Come, Lord Jesus, come.
Come, deliver us from evil.
Come, deliver us from sin.
Direct our thoughts to your holy Word.

You who make weeping last for the night
and bring shouts of joy in the morning.
Grant us faith to shine like lights,
And love for all humankind.

Come Lord Jesus, come
You who make all things new
Fill our heats with praise
to rejoice in what is true.

For our God is good and his word cannot be broken.
For our God redeems and his gospel must be spoken.

Confession & Assurance

Merciful God,
We confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and what we have not done
by what we have believed, and what we have loved.
We have not loved you or admired you above all.
We trust in fleeting words instead of your unbreakable Word.
In your abundant mercy forgive us O Lord.
Cleanse us and renew us,
Give eyes to see and a heart to cherish—Christ in all the Word,
that we may see your face, delight in your will,
and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

While it is true that we have sinned,
it is a greater truth that we are forgiven
through God’s mighty love in Christ Jesus.
To all who humbly seek the mercy of God I say,
in Jesus Christ your sin is forgiven!

Thanks be to God!

Scripture cannot be broken, Rejoice!
Christ has fulfilled the Law, Rejoice!

Go in the hope of the Second Adam
Heed the word of the Second Moses
And enjoy the grace of the risen Christ,
For Christ is all in all.
