Hope that Points to Another World 1 Peter 3:13-17

By Jonathan Dodson

You are high and lifted up, O Lord, greater than we think.
Confront our sin in your holy love.
You are pure and kind, O Lord, better than we know.
Shackle us to your unfailing goodness.
You are happy to be our God, O Lord.
Tune our hearts to sing your praise.

Merciful God,
We confess that we have sinned against you.
We have refused to enjoy your love and approval,
fearing other people and prioritizing other things.
We have not set you apart as holy or admired you above all.
We settle for peer approval or judgment,
when you offer an ocean of love.
In your abundant mercy forgive us, O Lord.
We are truly sorry and humbly repent.
Because of your Son, Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us, and forgive us, O Lord;
renew our faith and bring us back to you
that others may hear the reason for our hope within,
through Christ our Lord, Amen.

While it is true that we have sinned,
it is a greater truth that we are forgiven
through God’s mighty grace in Christ Jesus.
To all who humbly seek the mercy of God I say,
in Jesus Christ your sin is forgiven!

Thanks be to God!

Go, splash in the ocean of God’s approving love.
Set apart, the Lord Christ as holy in your hearts.
Live, as though you were made for another world.
The Spirit of peace with you always, even to the end of the age.
