As we clear the hurdle of spring, we often look to the for summer for relief—family vacations, 4th of July celebrations, swimming and playing outdoors. Summer is a rest rhythm at City Life Church. We don’t offer City Seminary classes, plan fewer events, and encourage City Groups to enjoy one another and creation.
Recreation, however, is not enough. We often return from summer exhausted and discontent. How can summer be different? St. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians contains the secret of contentment, offers possibilities of persevering joy, and reveals how Christ has created us to flourish in service of one another. It is, after all, the letter that promises “peace that passes all understanding” (4:7). If we embrace the divine wisdom of Philippians, it could change our whole summer, even our lives.
